PURPOSE:To obtain the printed image of a reduced area or of a standard size by taking the OR of read signals that are generated by scanning with double density in the main scanning directions at every specified piece of dots, and taking the OR of the output signals of the OR operation at every specified number of lines. CONSTITUTION:The dot density of a line sensor 13 and the speed of clock signals are double as fast as a standard, and the density of output signals from a binary conversion circuit 15 is also double as much as the standard in both scanning directions. A 3/2-dot OR circuit 20 takes the OR of the above mentioned double-dot-density signals in the main scanning direction at every three or two dots, and outputs the result, A 3/2-line OR circuit 21 takes the OR of the above-mentioned signals from the circuit 20 at every three or two lines, and outputs the result as the signal of one line. As a result, the print area goes to the standard size or approxumately a half of the standard size.
