PURPOSE:To weld sheet metals with the high quality at a high speed by performing the laser beam irradiation under specific conditions in advance on the objective position of a W electrode at the time of performing the TIG welding of the sheet metals with the specific thickness. CONSTITUTION:At the time of performing the TIG welding of the metallic materials with the thickness <=1.0mm, the laser beam irradiation with the energy density E>=10<4>J/cm<2> at the metal surface which is calculated by a formula E=P/DV at the position separated by the distance <=10mm is performed in advance on the objective position of the W electrode. Further, in the formula, P, D and V denote the laser beam output (watt), the laser beam diameter (cm) at the sheet metal surface and the beam irradiation travel speed (cm/sec) respec tively. By this method, when the TIG welding is performed after the laser beam irradiation is performed, an arc is concentrated on a laser beam irradia tion part and the welding with internal and external beads having narrow width and a smooth shape of the beads can be performed at a high speed. |
