The present invention relates to a method of controlling the movements of a filling material or a similar material in conjunction with a rigid construction, for which purpose a compliant layer is created in backfill material in close association with the aforementioned construction, thereby reducing the pressure against the construction. The layer can be created by arranging one or more fluid-filled envelopes in the backfill material alongside the construction. What is characteristic of the invention is that soil reinforcement is arranged in conjunction with the aforementioned compliant layer, which reinforcement is permitted under the aforementioned controlled movement to adopt a predetermined degree of prestressing. |
