The memory appts. is for use in a digital computer system and employs a non-flexible magnetic disc for storing digital information. A rotary appts. positions magnetic heads relative to the magnetic disc and includes a pivotably mounted arm and a cantilevered carriage arm for holding the magnetic heads. A stepper motor drives the pivotable arm and a band coupling couples motion of the stepper motor to the pivotable arm. The band coupling comprises two separate crossed metal bands both being connected near one of their respective ends at non-adjacent connecting bosses or points on the pivotable arm. One of the bands is connected near its other end to the pulley and the other of the bands is connected near its other end to the protruding end of the spring.
