PURPOSE:To obtain a bulky chalcogenide glass by converting silicon tetrachloride into alkyl tellurium silicate followed by reaction with hydrogen telluride and then polycondensation into a dry gel which is ten heat-treated. CONSTITUTION:(a) A reaction is carried out between silicon tetrachloride and RTeH (R is alkyl) into an alkyl tellurium silicate of the formula Si(TeR)4. (b) This alkyl tellurium silicate is made into a RTeH solution which is then made to react with hydrogen telluride. Thence, (c) a polycondensation is carried out to distill the RTeH and hydrogen telluride off into a dry gel. (d) This gel is then heat treated, thus obtaining the objective chalcogenide glass of the formula SiTe. This chalcogenide glass can be applied to infrared-transmittable optical fibers, ultralow-transmission loss optical fibers, semiconductor devices, etc., thereby making great contributions to the relevant industries. |
