487,297. Umbrellas. HAUPT, H. Oct. 4, 1937, No. 26865. Convention date, Oct. 5, 1936. [Class 134] In a telescopic umbrella provided with supplementary braces pivoted to an auxiliary runner, a device is provided for braking the auxiliary runner in the first part of the expansion of the frame. An umbrella has telescopic stick parts 1, 2, Fig. 1, telescopic rib parts 3, 4 and auxiliary braces 7 pivoted to an auxiliary runner 10. A braking spring 11 or 11<1> prevents collapse of the rib parts when the umbrella is opened. The spring may be that used for locking the stick parts in their extended position. The auxiliary runner may be adapted to press the stick spring 12, Fig. 3, inwardly so that the stick parts 1, 2 may be collapsed by the application of axial pressure. In another form, the locking catch 21, Fig. 5, is mounted within the stick on a pivot 19 and is biassed by a spring 24 in such manner that the pressure exerted by the locking nose 22 is reduced when pushed inwardly by the auxiliary runner 10 and the axial pressure for collapsing the stick parts is reduced. In a further form, a braking lever 29, Fig. 7, is connected to the locking member 23 for the stick by a spring 30. The lever pivots 19, 28 are mounted between metal sheets 33 riveted to the stick. |
