The invention relates to a cross-cutter with a depository for the cut sheets. So that, during a positive conveyance of the cut sheets, the sheets can be deposited in a fault-free manner in rapid sequence, a combined conveying and braking device 20-31 is arranged behind a conveyor device 8, 9. This combined conveying and braking device 20-31 takes over the positive conveyance of the sheets when these leave the preceding conveyor device 8, 9. By means of deflecting and guiding cams, the sheets are deflected out of the conveying plane and conveyed first by a conveying cam 22 via guide elements 30, the rotational speed of the conveying cam 22 determining the conveying speed as a result of the high coefficient of friction. While the conveying cam 22 is still conveying the sheet positively, a downstream braking cam 23 strikes the guide element 30 which, however, as a result of the low coefficient of the guide element 30, does not yet have a braking effect on the sheet. Only when the conveying cam 22 leaves the end of the conveying and braking device 20-31 does the braking effect become active. This takes place in that the braking cam 23 presses the sheet against the braking ring 31b of the shaft 31 which rotates at the braking speed and which has a high coefficient of friction. The sheet thereby deflected allows an overlap of its end with the start of a new sheet.
