[Class 3S (iii)] A controller particularly for an electricallydriven vehicle comprises a switch 1-4 set by the driver to regulate the speed, a main switch 19 for opening and closing the motor circuits, and an interlocking device 12 coupled to and operated with the switch 19 so that in the off position of the switch 19 the switch 1-4 is free for setting and in the on position of the switch 19, the switch 1-4 is locked from movement. The speed switch comprises a rotatable disc 4 provided with one or more contact plates 3 co-operating with spring contact plungers 2 mounted on a stationary disc 1. The plungers 2 may have enlarged ends 10 which act as terminals and limit the outward movement. The spindle of the disc 4 carries a pointer 7 co-operating with a dial on the front of a cover 5. The disc 4 has a number of recesses in its periphery corresponding to its controlling positions, into which a plunger 12 is biassed by a spring 13, the plunger being withdrawn by the operation of a pedal 15 to open the main switch 19. The movable contact 18 of the switch 19 works in oil or grease in a sump 20. A lost-motion connection 21 enables a spring 23 to press the contacts of the main switch into engagement even though the plunger 12 does not seat properly in a recess. The pointer or setting lever 7 may be detachable from the spindle of the speed switch which spindle may terminate below the cover, so that unauthorized use is prevented. The controller may give series and parallel working of the motors, operate variable speed gears, and give electric braking. Specification 456,891, [Group XXXI], is referred to.</p> |
