A process is disclosed of forming an electrical conductor on an insulative substrate (3) by coating onto the substrate particles of metal-ligand compounds (5) of each of rare earth, alkaline earth, and copper, where the ligands are chosen to be volatilizable. The particles are heated in the presence of oxygen to form an intermediate coating (9) on the substrate, and the intermediate coating is converted to a crystalline, electrically conductive form (17). Either thick or thin films can be formed by the process, and in preferred forms the films (21) can be superconducting at elevated temperatures. |
