PURPOSE:To obtain a polymer having sensitivity even to Ar laser light in the visible region, by using polyester contg. phenylenebis (alpha-cyanobutadienecarboxylic acid) as an acid component. CONSTITUTION:Polyester represented by general formulaIor II contains phenylenebis (alpha-cyanobutadienecarboxylic acid) represented by general formula III (where Ar is p- or m-phenylene) as an acid component by at least 10mol% of the constituent units of the acid components. A dicarboxylic acid represented by general formula IV such as terephthalic acid or isophthalic acid may be contained in the polyester. A glycol represented by a general formula HO-R2-OH such as ethylene glycol or diethylene glycol is used as the diol component of the polyester. An oxycarboxylic acid represented by a formula HO-CO-R3-OH may be used.
