PURPOSE:To prevent big difference from occurring between the melting states of right and left optical fibers by measuring the melting states of the respective right and left optical fibers to be connected in terms of image and correcting the end face position of the optical fiber before discharging so that the right and left optical fibers to be connected are equally melted. CONSTITUTION:Coating at the terminal part of the coated optical fiber A is eliminated and the optical fibers are positioned and held on V-shaped groove tables 2 by opposing the end faces thereof. By processing the transmitted image of the side of the naked optical fiber 1 obtained by an optical system 4 and a camera 5 at the image processing part 6, information about the end face position and the discharging and heating state of the naked optical fiber 1 is monitored. Then, the melting state of the optical fiber 1 caused by discharging and heating is detected and feedback to the positional adjustment of the end surface position of the optical fiber before discharging at the time of fusing and connecting is executed. Thus, the melting quantity of the right and left optical fibers can be made almost equal and the fusion splicing which is stable and has low loss is realized. |
