PURPOSE:To form a distinct image even in the case of a process cartridge whose size and process condition are different from those of an exclusive process cartridge by providing a means for discriminating a cartridge adaptor and the exclusive process cartridge on the device main body side. CONSTITUTION:In a device main body of an A3 copying machine, a process cartridge 14B of an A4 copying machine is installed so as to be attachable and detachable through a cartridge adaptor 30, and an image is formed by this process cartridge 14B. In this case, this device is constituted so that a microcomputer 31 side of the main body can discriminate a fact that the cartridge is the A4 cartridge 14B by turning on an adaptor discriminating switch 35 of the device main body side, therefore, a primary electrifying condition to a primary electrifier of the A4 cartridge 14B from a primary electrifying high voltage power source unit 32 can be varied by generating a signal to the power source unit 32 from a primary shield difference current switching terminal 41 of the microcomputer 31. In such a way, the A3 copying machine can form a distinct image through the A4 cartridge 14B. |
