PURPOSE:To form a smooth carrying path by arranging a transfer device near the lowermost part of an image carrier while preventing the inside of a device from being spoiled by developer which drips to the lowermost part of the image carrier. CONSTITUTION:At least in the middle of the transfer of the transfer device 6, a liquid receiving member 4 is located at a standby position by a moving means 9 so as not to prevent the transfer by the device 6 arranged near the lowermost part of the image carrier 1. In the middle of the transfer of the device 6, the image carrier 1 is endlessly moved and excess developer removing process is performed in a developing device 3 in order to keep the adhering quantity of the developer to the transfer material to a necessary minimum. Thus, the developer is prevented from staying in the lowermost part of the image carrier 1 and dripping therefrom, and there is no trouble even though the member 4 is not located at a liquid receiving position. Meanwhile, the member 4 is located at the liquid receiving position by the means 9 at least in the case of stopping the endless movement of the image carrier 1. Thus, the developer staying in the lowermost part and dripping therefrom out of the developer adhering to the surface of the image carrier 1 is received by the member 4. |
