[Class 109] [Also in Group XXX] In a modification of the means for gripping. anchoring or joining ropes described in the parent Specification, a pin 13 disposed in the core of the rope or ropes is furnished externally with helical grooves co-operating with similar grooves in the inner sides of a bead or beads 12 constituted by sector-like members, the rope strands 11 being separately gripped between the corresponding grooves of the pin and the beads. Figs. 1 and 2 show the application to the connection of a rope to the shackle 10 of a swivel hook, which has grooves 10a in which the sectors 12 fit; a portion of the hempen core 11a of the rope is replaced by the pin 13, which has an integral or attached head 13a. A bearing ring 14 may be interposed between the head 13a and the members 12. For gripping a rope at an intermediate point, Fig. 4, the pin 13 is headless and tapered at each end and a pair of tapered drawing members 16, 17 are secured over the beads 12. The pin 13 may be solid or tubular; in the latter case the hempen core is threaded through the bore of the pin, or the pin is longitudinally split and dowel pins and holes are provided to ensure correct assembly. Fpr joining ropes, each rope end is fitted with a headed core pin or a single core pin may be introduced into the adjacent ends of the two ropes, and sectional beads fitted over the rope ends are engaged by draw members secured together as in Fig. 4. |
