Sulfosuccinic surface-agents having the formula: wherein M = Na, K, NH4; R1 = monoalkyl (C8-C20) ether of a polyhexose, polypentose or sorbitol, optionally hydroxylated and/or ethoxylated; R2 = M, alkyl (C8-C20); are prepared by the sulfonation of the corresponding maleic esters.
