The system for improving the image definition comprises a band pass filter (5) for filtering high band components from the chrominance signal of a luminance and chrominance separating unit (1), a rectifying and smoothing unit (6) for the chrominance signal outputted from the filter (5), a buffer (7) for amplifying the chrominance signal if the unit (6) and a substractor (8) for subtracting the chrominance signal of the buffer (7) from an input sharpness signal (Cs) to control a luminance signal processor (2) according to the amplitude of the subtracted chrominance signal to increase and decrease the frequency band of the luminance signal.
