The drum includes the framework, each face of the framework extending between the side flanges (1) and comprising two rectangular frames (10), hinged together (15) along adjoining sides (11) in the middle of the drum. The sides (11) opposite these centrally hinged sides are hinged (9) to the outer edges of square support frames, made of angle section, each bolted at the corners to one of the flanges, centrally w.r.t. the drum axis. On bringing the flanges together, the hinged frame centres move outwards until the frames lie flat to the flanges. In use, each frame pair holds its neighbour fully extended. The sectoral fairings are placed on these four faces to form a cylinder on which the cable is wound. ADVANTAGE - Empty drums are much reduced in bulk for transport and storage.
