The invention relates to a printer 1 for printing a substrate 2 with a pattern, comprising conveyor means 3 for moving the substrate 2 through the printer 1 at a predetermined conveying speed, means 4 for rotary screen printing, which are provided with one or more stencils bearing a design for forming one or more sections of the pattern using printing paste, one or more stations 5 for inkjet printing, in order to apply remaining sections of the pattern, each station 5 being provided with inkjet nozzles which are arranged in a matrix, are directed towards the substrate to be printed and from which ink droplets can be ejected at an adjustable frequency, as well as control means 9 for adjusting the conveying speed of the substrate, the peripheral speed of the stencils and the ink-ejection frequency to one another. The peripheral speed of the stencils is substantially equal to the conveying speed. <IMAGE>
