The surgical instrument for placing spinal implants has a guide plate (4) for attachment to a vertebra to position an instrument or a prosthesis component, such as an adjuster instrument (10) which regulates the position of the guide with respect to the vertebra. The adjuster instrument can have an inter-vertebral plate (11) and an X-ray control mark. It can have a guide rod (12) for the guide plate.
