PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus including a fixing device, which can accurately detect the temperature of a heating rotor without damaging the heating rotor such as a fixing roller. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a heat roller 55 as the heating rotor rotated and used for fixing a toner image by its rotation; a driving means 57 for rotating the heat roller 55; a thermostat 62 disposed with a detecting surface for detecting the temperature of the heat roller 55 elastically in contact with the heat roller 55; a nip part N for fixing an unfixed toner image formed on a paper sheet P by heating and pressing; and a control part for controlling the rotation of the driving means 57. The control part controls the driving means 57 so that the pre-fixing rotational speed until the paper sheet P reaches the nip part N is lower than the fixing rotational speed when the paper sheet P passes through the nip part N.
