The reciprocating piston engine (1) has an eccentrically stored and adjusted crankshaft (2) and a detection device (6) of one or multiple effective eccentric moments. A tripping device (7) is provided that causes an eccentric adjustment of the crankshaft by utilization of an effective eccentric moment. Multiple serially arranged stroke pistons (3) are connected over the crankshaft. An independent claim is included for a method for changing an adjustable compression ratio at a reciprocating piston engine adjusting a crankshaft.
