PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for heavy working, which effectively impart a large strain to a metal material and is industrially practicable, and a heavy working method. SOLUTION: A metal material extruded from an extrusion die is subjected to groove-rolling by using a groove, which is formed so as to have the same opening shape and opening area as the opening part of the extrusion die and have a positional relation twisted by a predetermined degree around a working axis with respect to the opening part of the extrusion die. By conducting groove-rolling using the groove die, a great plastic strain is uniformly imparted to a long-length metal material in a continuous process while greatly reducing the working force.
