<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To materialize a display which displays an image of high resolution with few pieces of input data. <P>SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display panel 10 is composed of a first display pixel group composed of display pixels 2 arranged in a lattice-shape in the vertical direction and the horizontal direction orthogonal thereto on the same plane; and a second display pixel group composed of display pixels 2 arranged in a lattice-shape at a pitch same as that in the first display pixel group. The first display pixel group and the second display pixel group are arranged so as to be shifted in the vertical direction by the 1/2 of the arrangement pitch in the vertical direction of the respective display pixels 2, and are also arranged so as to be shifted in the horizontal direction by the 1/2 of the arrangement pitch in the horizontal direction of the respective display pixels 2, and each comprise a birefringent plate 3 provided on the optical path of the light emitted from the liquid crystal display panel 10.
