<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wavelength multiplexer demultiplexer whose characteristics can be adjusted in the manufacturing stage. <P>SOLUTION: A wavelength characteristics of the wavelength multiplexer demultiplexer which is made athermal can be adjusted by forming a groove in a waveguide and wherein filling a temperature compensating material which is different from the waveguide in a temperature coefficient of an effective refractive index. Specifically, another groove is formed in the waveguide and a plurality of refractive index adjusting materials differing in refractive index are filled therein to adjust the wavelength characteristics. The wavelength characteristics of the wavelength multiplexer demultiplexer are measured and a combination of refractive index adjusting materials to be filled may be changed according to a measurement result. Consequently, variation in characteristic due to a manufacturing error of the wavelength multiplexer demultiplexer is compensated to improve the yield. Particularly, the wavelength multiplexer demultiplexer which is made athermal can have characteristics adjusted in the manufacturing stage. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT</p> |
