PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an article transport device capable of maintaining article transport performance as much as possible after a movable body has been stopped for a long period of time. SOLUTION: A control means 27 controls travel of the movable body based on a distance measurement information of a distance measuring means 25 for measuring a distance between the movable body and a reference position by moving a medium for distance measurement along a travel route of the movable body provided with traveling wheels which are freely elastically deformable in a radial direction. The article transport device conducts a temporary operation control for traveling the movable body wherein a slow travel speed for temporary driving which is slower than a fast traveling speed for main driving is set as a maximum speed of target traveling speed by the time when a traveling quantity of the movable body afterward satisfies a setting cancel condition in the case that the control means 27 is in a continuous stop state in which the movable body has been stopped for a setting stop time or longer. The article transport device conducts the temporary operation control by the time when the traveling quantity of the movable body satisfies the setting cancel condition in the case that abnormality occurs in the distance measurement when a main drive control for traveling the movable body wherein the fast traveling speed for the main drive is set as the maximum speed for the target travel speed is performed.
