PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate optical pulses having a sufficient extinction ratio while suppressing frequency broadening and waveform distortion in the optical pulses. SOLUTION: An output light pulse 16 is generated by subjecting a light pulse 13 obtained by direct modulation of a laser 11 to partial intensity modulation by a modulator 15 in a desired period as an external modulation period included in a static oscillation period of the light pulse 13.
