PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent generation of any strike by an electrode in the spot welding, and to shorten the working time required for the spot welding. SOLUTION: In a spot welding apparatus X having a movable electrode 1 and a fixed electrode 2 arranged at the position opposing the movable electrode 1, a linear unit 120 and a servo unit 110 are provided on an actuator for driving the movable electrode. The linear unit 120 has a base end member 122 which is slidably inserted in a cylindrical casing 121, a guide rail 124 fitted to the base end member 122, a linear movable body 125 reciprocating along the guide rail 124 by a linear motor, and a holding member 126 for holding the movable electrode 1 fitted to the linear movable body 125. The servo unit 110 reciprocates the linear motor unit 120 in the axial direction of the casing 121 via the base end member 122 by using the driving force of the servo motor 111.
