The drive roller (3) has a cylindrical or ball-shaped roller body including an outer shell on which a ribbon cable (5) for turning a load is applied. Guiding disks guide the cable on longitudinal ends of the body. The drive roller is arranged at a motor-powered axis (4) of a load turning device (1), in a torque-proof manner. The outer shell is coated with a plasticized rubber coating based on natural or special rubber and plastic e.g. polyurethane. The outer shell is mechanically provided with a central circular surface area, by heat treatment, hardening and vulcanization processes.
