The invention presents a method for acquiring bearer service type and switching between bearer networks for terminals. When establishing bearer, Policy Charging Rule Function PCRF determines the bearer service type information according to the application information provided by the application server, and transmits the said bearer service type information to the bearer network. With the technical solution of the present invention, the bearer network is able to acquire the bearer service type information when establishing bearer, and perform handover quickly and accurately when terminals need to switch between bearer networks.
