PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform recording and playback with stream forms being optimum for respective disks in accordance with a kind of an input signal (analog/digital, TS/PS), digital broadcasting picture quality (SD/HD), or the like, for a standard optical disk of which the recording density is different and a high density optical disk. SOLUTION: Recording formats of both TS and PS are decided to the high density optical disk, a PS/TS converting circuit is controlled based on an input discrimination result and a SD/HD discrimination result, and recording is performed with the optimum recording stream.
