A variable displacement swash plate type compressor is provided to reduce the noise and pulsation by causing the refrigerant to pass through two sections of the discharge chamber successively. A variable displacement swash plate type compressor comprises a cylinder block having a plurality of cylinder bores in which a piston reciprocating according to the rotational motion of a swash plate is positioned, a front housing which is installed on one end of the cylinder block to form a crank case, and a rear housing which is installed on the other end of the cylinder block. The rear housing includes a discharge chamber and an intake chamber(116) which are divided by a partition wall and an outlet(112) connected with the discharge chamber. In the discharge chamber, a partition plate(130) comprising a body portion(131) and a stepped portion(133) is provided to divide the inside of the discharge chamber into a first section(120a) and a second section(120b). The first and second sections are connected via one or more through holes formed on the stepped portion of the partition plate.
