A constant velocity joint for a drive shaft assembly for a downhole mud motor is provided. The constant velocity joint includes an adapter having a plurality of axial splines positioned in a counter bore and a swivel portion, a first end of which is receivable in the counter bore. The first end of the swivel further includes a plurality of axial splines engaged with the splines in the counter bore of the adapter. The splines on the swivel further include curved outer surfaces such that engagement with the splines in the adapter is maintained during radial articulation of the swivel. Embodiments of this invention advantageously provide for increased torque transmission as compared to constant velocity joints of the prior art.
