Combination of a nucleic acid and a vasoactive agent for enhanced gene delivery

Provided is the use of a vector in the manufacture of a medicament for use in the treatment of cardiovascular disease in a patient, wherein said medicament is formulated for intra-arterial injection coincident with or after infusion of the artery with a vasoactive agent selected from histamine or a histamine agonist and wherein the vector comprises a transgene encoding a protein to be expressed in the vascular bed of a tissue or organ supplied by the artery. Further provided are similar uses with specified vasoactive agents (e.g. histamine or histamine agonist) and gene vectors coding for specified genes, e.g. aFGF or VEGF.
