PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a device and method for processing image data, detecting the color gamuts of the image data to various image data having indistinct color gamuts, and outputting the color gamuts as color-gamut informations or adding the color gamuts to the image data. SOLUTION: In the device and the method for processing the image data, the device for processing the image data, inputs the image data consisting of input-color data, and obtains the color-gamut information of the image data. The device and method has: a means computing a value corresponding to the maximum value of the input-color data generated for a fixed period and the value corresponding to a minimum value; and a means generating the color-gamut information by using the value corresponding to the maximum value and the value corresponding to the minimum value.
