PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a composite having a fine inorganic compound uniformly dispersed in a polymer by a simple synthesizing operation by cleaving a clay layer by removing alkali metal ions between clay layers simultaneously with synthesis of polyester or polyacidic anhydride. SOLUTION: The method for producing an organic-inorganic composite comprises retaining an organic solvent solution 1 containing at least one compound a selected from the group consisting of a dihydric phenol compound, a dicarboxylic acid compound and a dicarboxylic anhydride (a), and an acid halide (b), and an aqueous solution 2 containing clay mineral in a state in which at least parts of the organic solvent solution 1 and the aqueous solution 2 are compatibilized, or making both the solutions coexist in a separated state, to generate an alkali metal salt of the compound (a) and to further react the alkali metal salt with the acid halide (b).
