<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain reduced power consumption and raised gradation in a projection image display device. <P>SOLUTION: The projection image display device 10 includes LED light sources 11r, 11b, and 11g which emit red light, blue light, and green light, respectively; liquid crystal display panels 2A, 2B and 2C which modulate the light from each light source according to an image signal, respectively; a dichroic prism 3 which composes a light modulated by each liquid crystal display panel; and a projection lens 4 which projects a light composed by the dichroic prism 3. The device further includes an LED light source 11c which emits cyan color light which has a complementary relation with the red light, an LED light source 11y which emits yellow light having a complementary relation with the blue light, and a control part 5 which controls emission of each LED light source. The light of the LED light source 11c is incident on the liquid crystal display panel 2A, and the light of LED light source 11y is incident on the liquid crystal display panel 2B. The control part 5 drives the emitting time of light source light incident on the liquid crystal display panels 2A and 2B according to the luminance or color saturation of the image signal. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
