<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a resin solution containing an aromatic polymer having high solubility in a solvent; an optical film and a method for producing the same; and an optical laminate, a polarizing plate and an image display device, each using the optical film. <P>SOLUTION: The optical film contains a polyester of a specific structure. The polyester is preferably a polycondensation product of a bisphenol and an aromatic dicarboxylic acid. It is more preferable that the polyester does not contain halogen atom.
