The gas sensor element (2) has a heating area where a heat emitting element (401) and a sensor substrate (4) oppose each other. A porous protective layer (5) forms air holes by ceramic particle, and covers the whole heat-emitting area. The other end (P1) of the porous protective layer protrudes within a range of 3 mm from an inner end (P2) of the heat emitting element. An independent claim is included for manufacturing method of gas sensor element.
