PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce vibrations and noise in dewatering in a low noise mode more than those in dewatering in a normal mode in a drum type washing machine having the normal mode and the low noise mode to be selected when a user demands the low noise. SOLUTION: A rotating speed of a drum is increased in a stepwise manner from 0→100→500→X1 rpm. An eccentric load generated in the drum in a step of each speed is detected. If the eccentric load is equal to or less than a prescribed threshold value, the rotating speed of the drum is increased to the next step. A threshold value C1 at the time of increasing the speed to X1 rpm by restarting the drum after halting the rotation of the drum once is set to be lower than a threshold value A1 before restarting.
