[Class 38 (v)] [Also in Groups VIII and XXIV] A switch comprises contact springs 108 of which the centre pair straddle an insulating bar 111 mounted on brackets 112 on a rock shaft 113. The switch is held in the position shown by a pawl 123 on the shaft 113 engaging a detent 124. It is moved to either side by pairs of magnets 115 or 116 co-operating with armature bars 114 on brackets 112, and is held in such position by a step 119 on a spring-urged armature member 121 engaging with a projection 118 on a cross-arm 117 of shaft 113. To allow return movement, the members 121 are rocked by an electromagnet 373.
