A liquid crystal display device is provided to drive the liquid crystal of the first and second regions asymmetrically so as to have the uniform average retardation regardless of the viewing direction when implementing a black screen in which the voltage difference between a common electrode and a pixel electrode per a unit pixel is maximized. A unit pixel(130) on the first substrate is divided into the first region and the second region. In the first region, electrode patterns having the same shape are formed in a zig-zag form. In the second region, electrode patterns having the same shape are formed in a zig-zag form adjacently to unit pixels of the first region. A common electrode(103b) and a pixel electrode(125) are formed in each unit pixel to generate electric fields of different directions. The second substrate is attached with the first substrate. An alignment layer is formed in at least one of the first and second substrates. |
