[Class 82(i)] An iron alloy comprising from 2.75 to 3.15 per cent. of carbon, 2.25 to 3.5 per cent. of silicon, 0.5 to 1.0 per cent. of manganese, and vanadium or chromium or both in such proportion that the sum of the vanadium and onehalf of the chromium percentage is between 0.05 and 0.5 per cent., is employed as a welding metal for cast iron elements. Preferably nickel or copper, or both, are present, the sum of the copper and one-half of the nickel percentages being between 0.25 and 1.5 per cent. In making welding rods of the alloy a part of the silicon, for example .25 to 1.5 per cent., is preferably added to the molten metal in the ladle. |
