A warning device (1) comprises a base (2), a spring (4) connected to the base, and a flexible sleeve (5) surrounding the spring. The spring is biased towards an extended state in and is compressible to a collapsed state in which it lies adjacent the base. At the apex of the cone there is an operating member (6) for a latching mechanism which latches the resilient portion to the base. When the operating member is operated to disengage the latching mechanism, the spring extends automatically to its extended state. The operating member may be in the form of a lighting unit which is operated automatically when the coil spring is in its extended state. The lighting unit may be mounted removably in a housing. The lighting unit may prevent access to the latching mechanism by means of an anti-tamper mechanism. In the collapsed state, a number of warning devices can be stored in a dispensing magazine for sideways dispensing and automatic deployment. |
