REFRIGERATOR AND METHOD OF CONTROL THEREOF

A refrigerator and a control method are provided to prevent malfunction due to the overheat of a water valve by controlling phase of driving voltage applied in the water valve to reduce average voltage. A refrigerator comprises a dispenser(20) and a feedwater pipe(31) for supplying water to the dispenser. A water valve(35) is mounted on the feedwater pipe and is driven with a valve operation part. The controller controls the valve operation part in order to apply driving voltage having different average voltage selectively to the water valve according to operating modes.
