METHOD FOR ENHANCING PROTECTIVE FUNCTIONS OF MOUNTAIN FORESTS FOR CONTROLLING MUDFLOWS AND FLOODS IN THE CARPATHIANS

摘要

A method for enhancing the protective functions of mountain forests for controlling mudflows and floods in the Carpathians provides for constructing means preventing from forming mudflows and breaking the speed of water flow reducing destructive effect thereof, constructing drop structures with the aid of planting selected trees and bushes and a method is developed for planting thereof in hollows at a distance of 2- from a water track. The plantations will prevent from forming mudflows and will reduce the speed of running down thereof. On mountain flows artificial drop structures of tree trunks of no less than in thickness are arranged, the edges of which are reliably fixed in soil layers. The tree trunks are tightly adjoined to each other thus forming a kind of a dam of 1- in height from the bottom of a flow, for the width of the flow.
