The method involves charging an energy storage unit (4) using a current voltage generator (1) in operating intervals, in which no operating current does not flow at electrodes (6), where the current voltage generator generates direct current and direct current voltage. The energy in the energy storage unit is adjusted during processing of the electrodes in addition to the generator output. The charging process and the discharging process are controlled, where the total process are cyclically implemented. An independent claim is also included for a generator operating device comprising a current voltage generator.
