PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that prior art relay stations provide for a fixed amount of time to pass after a relay station ends a transmit zone before it switches to the receive state and for a fixed amount of time to pass after a relay station ends a receive zone before it switches to the transmit state. SOLUTION: A method is for controlling a relay station in a cell of a multi-hop relay network in accordance with a one-way propagation delay between a base station in the cell and the relay station. The relay station in a cell of a multi-hop relay network includes means for controlling the signal flow between the relay station and the various other stations in the cell in accordance with a one-way propagation delay between a base station in the cell and the relay station.
