PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain Japanese input with input operation on a keyboard of Qwerty arrangement of a personal computer with no operation of selecting English in Roman alphabet input although selection of pressing the same key a plurality of times is conventionally required for English input of a character input device with a small number of keys like dozen keys such as an information terminal including a cellphone and a small keyboard. SOLUTION: A terminal for inputting Japanese is provided with combination keys of consonant letters and vowel letters, wherein the operation of the combination key after Kana (Japanese syllabary) conversion is not determined when pressed, and when a consonant letter key is then pressed, the operation of the combination key pressed first is determined as a vowel letter on condition that Roman alphabet-Kana conversion cannot be performed in combination with the consonant letter of the combination key, and the other combination keys than that are determined as consonant letters. The Roman alphabet input of a user is thereby identified automatically even with the small number of keys to attain Roman alphabet input without selecting English. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
