PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the breakage of a strip, even in the case of forming a circular wearing step to a side gate in a twin-roll casting machine. SOLUTION: When the twin-roll casting machine having the circular wearing step 6 formed at the side gate 2, accompanying the rotation-sliding contact with the cooling rolls 1 is operated, the side gate 2 is pushed downward with a second cylinder in a state where the side gate 2 is brought into contact with the end surfaces of the cooling rolls 1, with a first cylinder. In this operation, a boundary surface 8 between a non-wearing portion 7 of the side gate 2 and the circular wearing step 6, is pushed to the outer circumferential surface of the cooling rolls 1 so as to prevent intrusion of the molten metal.
