The method provides access to a data entity having a basis version (12) and the creation of derived versions (16). The method comprises a creating procedure (S2) for creating a derived version (16), by carrying out (S22) one or more Operations (14) on the basis version (12), storing (S24) them, and accepting (S26) them. The method further comprises a providing procedure (S4) for providing access to the derived version (16) through first addresses mapped to second addresses of the basis version (12) and of the accepted one or more Operations (14), by reconstrttcting (S42) the derived version (16) based on the basis version (12) and the accepted one or more Operations (14).
